The overall focus of the group is to bridge the gap between experiments and quantum information theory. The group has close collaborations with several experimental and theoretical teams both locally and across Europe and the US. One particular focus of the group is driving the transition from prototype to practical quantum computers. This involves understanding limitations arising from the environment investigating solutions. Such solutions can range from improved designs for the host structure, over optimal points of operations (sweet spots), until optimal control techniques to counter the effects on qubits.

More about Maximilian
Dr. Maximilian Rimbach-Russ received his PhD in theoretical quantum physics from the University of Konstanz in 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Guido Burkard. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at QuTech (2019–2021) in the groups of Prof. Lieven Vandersypen and Prof. Menno Veldhorst. In 2021, he was awarded a Veni Talent Fellowship from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). He was appointed group leader at QuTech in 2023 and received an NWO Vidi Grant in 2025. Dr. Rimbach-Russ currently leads the Semiconductor Qubit Modelling group, which focuses on developing novel and improved host structures, qubits, and control strategies for current and future quantum technologies.
