Monica Bulacu completed an MSc in atomic and molecular physics at the University of Bucharest, Romania, in 1998. In 2008 she received her PhD in Applied Physics from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, with a thesis on computational study of soft matter.

Monica was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Groningen and at the Leiden University from 2008 to 2012. Afterwards, her career focus shifted from science towards acquisition and management of complex projects with multiple stakeholders (including IT, R&D and European projects) in two high-tech Dutch companies (Culgi and Brightsight). Since December 2020, she is part of the Management Team of the Quantum Computing Division, as a coordinator/program manager.

In her spare time, Monica enjoys literature, cinema and photography. She also likes doing different kinds of sport.
