Hitham Mahmoud Amin was born in Egypt. He received the B.Sc. degree in chemistry from the Faculty of Science, Zagazig University, Egypt. Hitham also finished the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering and materials science from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), Spain, in 2009 and 2013, respectively.

Hitham worked as a R&D Researcher with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, Madrid, Spain) from 2008. In 2013 Hitham moved as a postdoctoral fellow at the Politecnico di Milano, Italy (POLIMI- till 2015). He continued with a second postdoctoral fellow at Micro lab at CiTG, Delft University of Technology till 2017. In 2017, Hitham joined the Else Kooi Laboratory, Delft University of Technology, as senior engineer and department safety officer. In addition to be the DSO of EKL, his main research focus is on wet and polymer processing developments for MEMS devices, such as for organ-on-a-chip, flexible devices, and electrochemical sensors.

He joined QuTech in 2022 as department safety officer (DSO) and fabrication Engineer.
