Aldo Brinkman is the science information officer of QuTech. Trained as a physical chemist, experienced as a science journalist and now working as a press officer.
In 2009 he finished his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Utrecht and in 2011 his Masters' degree in ‘Nanomaterial: Chemistry & Physics’ in 2011. He did an internship at the University of Cambridge at the Cavendish Laboratory (Department of Physics) on the construction of a dynamic light scattering (DLS) setup and scientific programming. He went on to become a PhD researcher (no degree) at the Delft University of Technology of the biofunctionalization of field-effect transistor (FET) sensors.
During his studies Aldo started writing for the popular-science blog Scheikundejongens. As a scientist and a freelance science journalist he appeared on several tv-programs (De Kennis Van Nu, Nieuwsuur, Kassa), radio shows (Dit Is De Dag, Bureau Kijkindevegte, Een Vandaag) and appeared on stage (Weekend van de Wetenschap, VPRO Pubquiz, KNCV De Slimste Scheikundige). As a science information offer and a press officer at the Eindhoven University of Technical (TU/e) and the University of Amsterdam (UvA) he translated hardcore science into human-understandable stories, to increase the public understanding of the university.
Aldo joined QuTech in 2021 as a Communication Advisor. Among other things he helps scientists and engineers to communicate their work to a non-specialist audience, and is responsible for most external communication. He is the chief editor for the internal news letter and is part of the QuTech crisis team.
