Scarlett Gauthier (Ottawa, Canada, 1996) studied Mathematical Physics at the University of Waterloo at the BSc level (2019) and Applied Physics at TU Delft at the MSc level (2021). As a master’s student, she developed a recurrence-based distillation protocol for quantum graph states on qudit systems -- a tool for extending the applicability of certain quantum communication protocols.

She started her PhD in Stephanie Wehner’s group in November 2021. Her research interests are directed towards architectural investigations in quantum networks, with a focus on near term networks. Architectural questions can concern components of a network (How many links should connect to one router?); they may also address algorithms or network policies (How should a scheduling policy be chosen to ensure sufficient quality of service to end nodes?). A key challenge in this domain is discovering how networks can be designed to accommodate the unique requirements of quantum links.
