Leonie Hussaarts is a communications professional with a doctoral degree in biomedical sciences, who enjoys working at the interface of science and communication.

In 2008, Leonie obtained a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts & Sciences from University College Utrecht, after which she moved to Leiden to study Biomedical Sciences and Journalism and New Media. She graduated in 2015 with a PhD degree in Immunology from Leiden University and completed SRM C (Communications Advisor) in 2018.

Before joining QuTech, Leonie occupied various roles at Lygature, a not-for-profit organization providing management and communication services for research consortia. Over a period of 4 years, she obtained extensive experience developing communication strategies, plans, tools and content for large public-private partnerships in Life Science & Health. She is also a member of the Young Medicines Evaluation Board (College ter Beoordeling van Geneesmiddelen) since May 2016.

Leonie joined QuTech in 2019. Amongst others, she set up a new communications team and took the lead in developing QuTech’s current brand identity.

In her spare time, Leonie enjoys food, music, art and diving in Zeeland. She is a mother of two.
