Director Lieven Vandersypen elected Fellow of the American Physical Society
QuTech’s Director Research Lieven Vandersypen is selected to be an American Physical Society (APS) Fellow. Less than half a percent of all members of the Society are nominated each year. Being a fellow is a prestigious recognition by peers for outstanding contributions to physics.
The APS Fellowship Program recognizes members who have made exceptional contributions to the physics enterprise in physics research, important applications of physics, leadership in or service to physics, or significant contributions to physics education.
The Society has elected Lieven Vandersypen: ”[f]or pioneering the practical use of spins in quantum information processing, by performing quantum algorithms in liquid-state NMR and demonstrating readout and quantum operations with spin qubits in semiconductor quantum dots.”
Each year, no more than one half of one percent of the Society membership is recognized by their peers for election to Fellow of the American Physical Society. This year, 155 Fellows were selected and recognized for their contributions to science. The presentation of all new Fellows is done at the annual meeting of the APS unit.
About the APS
The APS is a not-for-profit membership organization of professionals in physics and related disciplines, comprising nearly fifty divisions, sections, and other units. Its mission is the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of physics. The society publishes more than a dozen scientific journals, including the prestigious Physical Review and Physical Review Letters, and organizes more than twenty science meetings each year.
