Welcome to the Vandersypen lab at Delft University of Technology! We belong to QuTech, the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience and the department of Quantum Nanoscience.


Our group studies quantum mechanical phenomena in nanoscale devices with a long-term view on applications in quantum computing and simulation. Realizing a large-scale quantum computer is one of the grand scientific and technological challenges today. A quantum computer would have possible applications ranging from health to energy. We choose as a quantum bit the spin of a single electron in a semiconductor quantum dot, for its extremely long coherence times and suitability for scaling. We fabricate quantum dot arrays using state-of-the-art nanofabrication technology, and manipulate and read out the electron spin qubits at milliKelvin temperatures using low-noise electronics, microwave techniques and nanosecond pulses.


From Sept. 2015 onwards, we collaborate closely with Intel Corporation for reliable, highly-uniform, large-scale fabrication of quantum dots. For more information click [here].
