QuTech is the mission-driven research institute of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). At QuTech, we work on a radically new technology with world-changing potential. Our mission is to develop scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and an intrinsically safe quantum internet. QuTech’s research and engineering activities are conducted in 3 divisions: Quantum Computing, Quantum Internet and Qubit Research. Role of Business Developer

As Business Developer at QuTech you will be working closely with and reporting to QuTech’s Director BD. Main goal will be to improve and grow our business, by establishing and developing impacting relationships within the Quantum field. You will arrange and manage contacts that are mutual beneficiary, you will enhance the cooperation between QuTech and national (research) institutes, government, innovative industry and Quantum Delft. Hence you will build out QuTech’s consortium and project acquisition.

To be successful you think strategically seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve our business. You research and scout new opportunities, seek strategic partnerships and spot the ones that can take QuTech to the next level.

You are well-versed in Quantum technology, know the QuTech projects by heart and you keep abreast of trends and changes in the Quantum field attending the relevant seminars, conferences and events. As a result you have an excellent insight in potential markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships and smart ways of reaching out and promoting QuTech.

You are a born networker, connecting with the right people, generating leads and foster and develop relationships, driving cooperation deals through to completion. Moreover you ensure all QuTech staff are on board throughout the projects’ development and organisation, you discuss promotional strategy and activities with the marketing communication department and liaise with the Project Bureau and Finance team, always aiming for improvement.

Work experience

  • >3 years’ experience as Business Developer, preferably in an academic/technical environment
  • Track record of successful BD in complex settings with many internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with large multidisciplinary R&D projects, keeping the overview of different disciplines
  • A link to QuTech’s affiliated organizations, e.g. within TU Delft or TNO, is a plus

Education

  • Academic with a science degree (beta)
  • Workable knowledge of engineering, computer science or physics and affinity with Quantum science

  • Seeing and seeking collaboration opportunities with 3rd parties, natural connector of opposites finding common grounds endowed with strong external orientation
  • Excellent networker, maintaining long-term relationships and establishing new ones

• Good communication skills in English (orally and in writing) and reasonable in Dutch (or willing to learn)

Conditions of employment

This offer contains a temporary appointment for 1 year with the prospect of a permanent contract. The full-time salary is based on VSNU-CAO Scale 11 (salary € 3746 – € 5127 euros monthly on full-time basis). The actual salary will be based on your knowledge and relevant work-experience. Full-time means 38 working hours per week.
TU Delft / QuTech offers a customizable compensation package, an attractive pension scheme, holiday allowance, a generous amount of holidays, a 13th month pay, a discount for health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged. An International Children’s Centre offers our employees child care and an international primary school. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (VSNU-CAO). Dutch citizenship or a European working permit is required to apply.
