Joe Randall carried out his PhD in trapped-ion quantum computing in the group of Winfried Hensinger at the University of Sussex in Brighton (UK), through the Controlled Quantum Dynamics Centre for Doctoral Training at Imperial College London. There, he worked on a new microwave-based scheme for scalable quantum computing with trapped ions.
Since October 2017, Joe has been working as a postdoc in the lab of Tim Taminiau at QuTech. Here he has worked on the development of multi-qubit devices for quantum networks, quantum simulation and quantum sensing based on the nitrogen-vacancy centre in diamond coupled to nearby carbon-13 nuclear spins.
In his spare time, Joe enjoys playing music, including with the QuTech band ‘Q2’.
