Francesco Battistel was part of the Elite Master Programme in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics (LMU and TU Munich, Germany), where he did his thesis with R. Koenig. He studied Physics for his Bachelor (Trieste, Italy).
Francesco joined QuTech in November 2017 and has been working as a PhD student in the Terhal Group. His research is about quantum error correction and superconducting qubits, mostly focused on near- and mid-term platforms. In particular he has been working on two-qubit gates and leakage in the surface code, collaborating with the DiCarlo Lab as well.
In his spare time, he goes to the gym, reads books (a bit of everything), plays board games online with friends. He is studying Dutch and is, surprisingly, enjoying it.
